Cook Islands and Golad Coast favourites top Kiwis’ travel recommendations

NEWS

Kiwis are loud and proud about their love for the Cook Islands and the Gold Coast, and who can blame them? According to the latest survey from Flight Centre, the Cook Islands snagged an impressive 95% satisfaction rating, making it the top country Kiwis would recommend. Not far behind, the Gold Coast, with a sky-high 96% approval, remains the go-to city for New Zealand travellers.

Heidi Walker, FCNZ’s General Manager, isn’t surprised. “The Gold Coast is like a second home for many Kiwis,” she says. “It’s close, caters to all ages, and with so many of our people having family ties there, it’s a no-brainer.” As for the Cook Islands, Walker points out that the appeal is obvious. “Short flight, same currency, stunning beaches, and the warmest welcomes—what’s not to love?”

Globally, Perth emerged as the top city, earning a 96% satisfaction rating, while Portugal stole the show as the most recommended country. With over 170,000 responses across five markets, including New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, it’s clear Kiwis are in good company with their travel choices. Queenstown and Christchurch also held their ground, with Queenstown hitting a solid 94% and Christchurch comfortably landing in the top 10.
