Towers arrive for new Orient chairlift
This weekend at Sun Peaks Resort, bright-eyed skiers and riders watched in excitement as the towers for the new Orient chairlift were flown into position by helicopter.
The new four passenger fixed-grip chairlift, located in the East Village area of the resort, is on track to open in time for Christmas. This addition to Sun Peaks Resorts’ robust lift network will significantly improve access to the main village core and to some of the most under-utilized ski terrain in the resort through family-friendly blue runs and fantastic pockets of glade skiing. Sun Peaks Resorts’ 2018-2019 alpine map, including location of the Orient chairlift can be found here.
The arrival of the towers had been delayed this week awaiting optimal flying conditions while Mother Nature continued to bless us with the goods, blanketing the slopes with ~30 cm new snow in the past week – bringing Sun Peaks’ alpine base to more than 90 cm, with 79 runs now open across the resort’s three mountains.
