Pitcairn Island increases and extendsshipping schedule through to April 2024
NEWS????
As tourism continues to rebound around the globe, remote Pitcairn Island is responding to unprecedented demand, with a significant increase in passenger services to the island and an extension of the shipping schedule to April 2024.
Extending beyond May 2023, Pitcairn’s supply ship, MV Silver Supporter, will operate 23 return passenger services between Mangareva, French Polynesia and Pitcairn Island through to April 2024. Voyages are timed to directly connect with the weekly, Tuesday flight from French Polynesia’s gateway island of Tahiti.
Pitcairn Islands Tourism Travel Coordinator, Heather Menzies, says “The new schedule’s increased frequency and capacity allows us to meet growing demand and provides a welcomed extension to April 2024. We know it takes time to plan a journey to one of the most remote, inhabited islands on the planet so this enables our visitors to plan ahead with confidence and secure their berths well in advance. We are also offering more flexibility, with the increased services once again providing the opportunity for visitors to stay on the island 4, 11, 18 days or longer.”
Pitcairn’s rebound has also been boosted by global travel vloggers “Yes Theory”, who recently visited the island. Their 19-minute YouTube video covering their journey to Pitcairn and their unique experiences exploring the island, has already hit 3.7 million views in just over a week.
The epic sea voyage and being surrounded by one of the world’s largest marine reserves and “Mata ki te Rangi – Eyes To The Sky” International Dark Sky Sanctuary, a visit to Pitcairn is one of the most unique travel experiences in the world, drawing international tourists from Europe to North America to Oceania.
