Christmas in Memphis

Memphis certainly comes alive during the holiday season, with the city filled with so much Christmas cheer and amazing things to do and see. Although we won’t be able to experience this for ourselves this year, the southern city has been rolling out a number of virtual performances in order to spread some Christmas joy to those around the world.

It wouldn’t be a Memphis Christmas without great music and Memphis Tourism is keeping this tradition alive and have curated performances from local musicians in some of the city’s favourite spots. Those at home can watch on as Grammy-nominated blues and soul band Southern Avenue, sing Christmas favourite Deck the Halls whilst taking us on a virtual tour of the Memphis Zoo Lights, the Enchanted Forest at the Museum of Science and History Pink Palace, as well as the Winter Wonderland found at The Children’s Museum of Memphis. You can watch the full performance at this link.

In addition to this, is a soulful performance by local musical group the Sensational Barnes Brothers, who are sure to get the whole family in the festive spirit and have you tapping along. Enjoy the truly amazing sounds of The Sensational Brothers as they take you a journey through Starry Nights at Shelby Farms Park, whilst singing Christmas favourite Up On The Rooftop, which you can watch here.

To continue on with the festive spirit and separate to the above, the Ballet Memphis is sharing a holiday classic and allowing those at home to stream The Nutcracker: A Gift From Ballet Memphis. Those at home are sure to be whisked away to a winter wonderland whilst watching this cinematic performance by local dancers.

You can also listen to another fabulous Christmas classic, Auld Lang Syne, performed by singer Evvie McKenny and American Jazz saxophonist, Kirk Whalum. Listen on to this fantastic performance, whilst virtually taking in iconic locations across the city filled with Christmas lights here.

These are just some of the ways the city of Memphis continues to band together to spread love and joy to those around the world and some much needed Christmas cheer.
